Terence Swafford
Master Carpenter & Historic Restoration Expert
Terry Swafford is a Master Carpenter who specializes in Historic Restoration and Project Management, through his contracting business, Swafford Building Workshop. He resides in Detroit’s Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood with his wife, son and 2 cats. A 1998 graduate of RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) with a BFA in Painting, Terry’s first experience working on a historic building came while studying in Rome, where he converted old studios of the Cenci, a 16th century palace, into student living quarters and new rooms into shared studios, classrooms and gallery spaces. After graduating from RISD, from 1998 to 2003, he apprenticed with a master carpenter in Kansas City. In 2003 he moved to Chicago, becoming the Project Manager for Lund Construction. In 2007 he began taking on his own contracts and built a reputation for highly refined craftsmanship, full in-house design, and complete project management. Over time, the projects became more challenging and shifted almost exclusively to Historic Restoration.
